John Hume and Ian Paisley discuss the Maze hunger strike

John Tusa is joined in the studio by the Democratic Unionist Party leader Rev Ian Paisley and, on video link from Dublin, by the Social Democratic and Labour Party leader John Hume.

John Hume outlines his two suggestions for the resolution of the hunger strike in the Maze prison. These are: allow prisoners to wear their own clothes and permit free association within the prison wings.

Ian Paisley rejects this solution because he believes the IRA would want more concessions, instead favouring a hard line policy towards prisoners.
