Â鶹ÊÓƵAV Radio York is the Â鶹ÊÓƵAV's local radio station covering North Yorkshire. It broadcasts a mix of news, sport, community information, conversation, music and entertainment, reflecting life in England’s largest county.

What is the remit of Â鶹ÊÓƵAV Radio York?

The station offers a range of local news, sport and information about North Yorkshire along with national and international coverage. Our programmes range from a three hour interactive weekday breakfast show, live sporting commentaries, specialist themed hours on gardening, agriculture and the arts, those portraying a lighter side of life with a mix of celebrities, entertainers who celebrate local people and local places of interest.

Radio York aims to appeal to all listeners who are interested in North Yorkshire life and its people and this could range from farming to horseracing but we do attract the majority of our audience from the over 50’s.

History of Â鶹ÊÓƵAV Radio York

Â鶹ÊÓƵAV Radio York was launched at 6.30am on 4 July 1983 – a launch featured on the cover of the Radio Times. A year prior to its launch a temporary AM service was broadcast for the coverage of the visit of Pope John Paul II. Broadcasts originally lasted between 6.30am and 1pm and 4pm and 6pm during the week with weekends restricted to 8am till 2pm. We are still the only countywide station in North Yorkshire. Notable former presenters include Jon Champion, Rob Hawthorne, Will Hanrahan, Victor Lewis Smith, Richard Whiteley and Richard Hammond.
