Why are downloads failing on my mobile or tablet?

Seeing a Download Failed message on the �鶹��ƵAV Sounds app on your mobile or tablet?

Close the app completely and then re-open it.
For some people, this has allowed the download to complete in full.
Make sure you have a strong internet connection.
Downloads will fail if the internet connection cuts out, so make sure you have a strong internet connection. You could try disconnecting your device from the internet and reconnecting to see if that helps. If you're using WiFi, resetting the network at the router can also make a difference.
Using Amazon Fire or Android? Clear the cache on the app.
Some users have found that this helps. Sign out of your �鶹��ƵAV account on the app first, then tap:

Amazon Fire	Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications > �鶹��ƵAV Sounds > Clear cache
Android	Settings > Storage > �鶹��ƵAV Sounds > Clear cache

Outside the UK?
For rights reasons, it isn't possible to download on the �鶹��ƵAV Sounds app when you're outside the UK. You can download podcasts from the website, though. Check this page for more information: How do I download a podcast episode from the website?

Still having problems?

Try these further steps:

Uninstall the app
Turn off the WiFi/mobile network on your device
Restart the device
Turn on the WiFi/network on the device again
Install the �鶹��ƵAV Sounds app again

Bear in mind any downloads in the app will be removed, meaning they need to be downloaded again after deleting the app.

You can only download programmes to your device’s internal storage. Our obligations to rights holders state that a downloaded programme can only be played on the device it was downloaded on.

How do I download on the �鶹��ƵAV Sounds app?

First, find the programme or podcast you'd like to download. You can search for programmes using the menus and categories on the homepage, or tap on the search icon to search for a programme or podcast.

Tap on the individual episode you'd like to download
Select the 'Download' option (if there is no download button, the programme may be available to stream only).

The programme will start to download, and you'll be able to see how the download is progressing.

Once the episode has finished downloading, you can find it in My Sounds > Downloads.

How do I play my downloaded programme?

To make sure you're playing the downloaded version of your programme:

Go to My Sounds, then Downloads
Tap the black play button to the right-hand side of the programme you want to listen to. This will ensure you're playing your download rather than streaming the programme online.

Why are my downloads queued?

If you're downloading several programmes at once, they will queue up and complete one at a time. You'll see the progress updating on the currently-downloading programme, while the others say 'Queued.'

Your downloads might get stuck in a queue if you're trying to download over a mobile network and haven't enabled this in the app. To check this:

Go to My Sounds > Settings > Download settings
Make sure 'Download over mobile networks' is switched on

How do I remove a downloaded programme?

Head to the Downloads section in My Sounds
Find the programme you want to delete and swipe it to the left <<
Tap Delete

You can also tap Edit or the pencil icon in the top right corner and then the X or bin icon to delete downloads.

How long do I have to listen to the download?

You can download and listen to most programmes offline for 30 days after they're broadcast. The app will remove downloaded programmes at the end of this period, so keep an eye on the expiry date of each programme you download to make sure you don't miss out.

Some programmes are only available for a shorter period, or are not available to download at all. This is because we have different rights agreements for different types of programmes, for example sporting or live music events.

Some podcasts have no expiry date, so when downloaded they are available indefinitely. However if the download is deleted, the app data is cleared or the app is uninstalled, these will be lost.

Can I download programmes and podcasts over a mobile network?

Yes. The option is disabled by default but can be enabled in Settings (select the cog icon in My Sounds).

It’s not possible to download radio programmes on the �鶹��ƵAV Sounds app from outside the UK. This is for rights reasons.

You can download individual episodes of many podcasts from the programme's page on the �鶹��ƵAV website. All episodes are MP3 audio files.

Please note, there is no �鶹��ƵAV Sounds app for PC or Mac. If you're using the app on your phone or tablet, please see the following page for help with downloading: How do I download on the �鶹��ƵAV Sounds app?

Firstly, check our How do I find podcasts? page if you need some advice on how to find a podcast. Remember, not all programmes will have a podcast.

Firstly, find the podcast you'd like to download. If you select the episode from the �鶹��ƵAV Sounds podcast page, it may start to play. In this case, select the 'Programme website' button from underneath the programme info and playback screen.

On the episode page within the Programme Website, click on Download*.

Choose which file quality you'd like to download: Higher Quality or Lower Quality.

The podcast episode will then start to download to the Downloads folder on your computer, or to an equivalent folder on your mobile or tablet. You can move the podcast file to a different folder if you'd prefer.

*If the podcast episode you've chosen doesn't have a download option on the programme website, it's likely this is a �鶹��ƵAV Sounds Exclusive podcast, meaning it can only be downloaded using the �鶹��ƵAV Sounds app for mobile or tablet. In this case it can be streamed on the website, or downloaded via the app.

If you want to delete a programme from your downloads you can do so by following these instructions:

Head to the Downloads section in My Sounds
Find the downloaded episode you want to delete and swipe it to the left
Tap Delete

When swiping to delete, some devices may offer the chance to 'undo' the deletion. This will appear as a pop up and remain on screen for a very short time.

You can also:

Tap Edit or the pencil icon in the top right corner
Then tap X to delete individual downloads

Can I remove programmes from the Latest list in My Sounds?

No, it's not possible to remove individual episodes from the Latest section of My Sounds.

Yes, if you download the podcast from the �鶹��ƵAV Sounds website on a computer, laptop, mobile or tablet. You can transfer it to another device like an MP3 player, disc, or memory stick because the podcast is saved as a file to the device you download it on, so you can move it or copy and paste it elsewhere.

It's not possible to transfer podcasts downloaded on the �鶹��ƵAV Sounds app.

How do I transfer a podcast from my computer to my second device?

Each device will be different but for most you will need to:

Plug your second device into your computer (usually via a USB cable) so that it appears as an external device in the My Computer folder on Windows PCs or the Finder folder on Mac computers
Locate the podcast episodes which you have already downloaded onto your computer
'Drag and drop' or copy and paste them into the folder for your second device in My Computer/Finder
Once the files have transferred, you will be able to disconnect the device and listen to the podcast episodes when you want to

You may want to move the podcast files to cloud storage that you can access across multiple devices, for example a file-sharing site or app. Some MP3 players also come with software to allow you to 'sync' the podcasts you have subscribed to on your computer with your player. This means that each time you plug in your MP3 player, the software will automatically transfer the latest episodes of your chosen podcasts to it. How this works depends on the brand of your MP3 player and the software you are using, so check the user manual for your MP3 player.

You can upload the file to cloud storage on another app or service, for example a file-sharing app or site, then open that service on another device to access your files. Can I autoplay my downloads?

Yes you can. Switch on autoplay by going to My Sounds > Settings (little cog on the top right), then we'll autoplay the next programme in your Downloads list.

Just go to Downloads and select the play icon beside the programme.

When the current programme comes to an end, the next programme in your list will autoplay.

Useful tips

If you change the list order (the example above is sorted by Expiry), the playback order will also change to reflect that.
If you're on a WiFi or mobile data connection and press play anywhere outside of the Downloads page (by selecting the image or programme description, for example), �鶹��ƵAV Sounds will autoplay the next episode in the series regardless of whether you've downloaded it. So make sure you're pressing the play button in the Downloads page to autoplay your downloads only.
You can see for yourself which order your downloads will autoplay in by pressing play on a download, then tapping the queue icon in the bottom right corner.
