Covid in South Korea: Restrictions tightened as cases soar
Up to now, case numbers in South Korea have been relatively low, but now, the government has reimposed a curfew of 9pm for restaurants and bars to close. Â鶹ÊÓƵAV correspondent Laura Bicker explains that South Korea has never had a lockdown, but government had sought to control the spread with gathering bans, closing businesses at certain times, and an efficient track and tracing system. In November, as 80 percent of the population had been vaccinated, restrictions were lifted but since then, infection numbers have accelerated, with Delta still the prodominant variant. With Seoul being such a densely populated city, infections have spread quickly - and now they're reintroducing restrictions for two weeks as they roll out booster vaccines.
