The latest cause of tension between India and Pakistan is basmati rice. It’s an important export for both nations. India has applied to the European Union for the exclusive rights to use the word ‘basmati’ in branding and marketing but Pakistan has opposed the move. So which country has the greatest claim to use the word ‘basmati’? Lindsay Middleton, food historian from the university of Glasgow explains.
