President Biden: "America is back"

The President lays out his foreign policy goals: making the US a global leader again, ending the war in Yemen and challenging Russia and China

US President Joe Biden has outlined a sweeping vision of restored American global leadership - based, he said, on alliances and values. In his first foreign policy speech, he said he intended to “send a clear message to the world: America is back.”

Among his major policies issues, Biden vowed to confront Russia and China, but work with them when possible too. He also put a focus on ending the war in Yemen, saying that he would end US support for offensive operations by the Saudi-led coalition there.

We got the reaction of Ambassador Dennis Ross, who served in four administrations, both Democrat and Republican, and is a former US peace envoy to the Middle East.

"The United States understands that when we don't lead, nobody does... He also understands we need to have moral authority. It's hard to claim a leadership role if we lack the kind of moral authority that reflects the values that we have embraced and have stood for."
