'The robot that helps me go to school'

A new government funded initiative aims to help long term sick children participate in school lessons from home with the help of a robot.

Seven-year-old Sam, who is being treated for leukaemia, uses the AV1 robot to attend lessons due to his low immune system. The robot acts as his eyes, ears, voice and hands in the classroom.

Sam's mum, Jude, told 5 Live: "Perhaps most importantly for Sam, it's knowing what's going on during school without getting any germs. And just not feeling left out. Feeling like he is still part of the class and that people haven't forgotten him."
