This archive recording was made in October 1971 by Robin Prytherch in El Palenque, an area of pampas just outside of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The term pampas comes from the Quechua word pampa, meaning flat surface or plain. And although these vast plains do gradually slope downward from northwest to southeast, most of the region appears perfectly flat. It's a haven for wildlife; here you'll hear the brown and yellow marshbird, southern screamer, rushbird (a wren-like bird), snail kite, rosy-billed pochard, southern lapwing, black and rufous warbling-finch, coots - and cows.
