Dr Matthew Brown from the Royal Marsden hospital explains how acupuncture is used to treat pain.

"It's different from the traditional Chinese medicine in as much as we don't believe in the kind of energy flows , the ying and yang, the meridian lines things like that," said the consultant in pain medicine and anaesthetics.

"It's as effective as a lot of the other medications that can be started and it doesn't have any side effects," added Dr Brown.
