'Go home and make memories'

Alfie Evans, who had a degenerative brain condition, died last weekend aged 23 months. His case has tested the question of what rights parents have when their child is ill. In Alfie Evan's case, his parents wanted to take him to Italy to see if his life could be prolonged there.

Clare Gregory contacted Radio 4's World at One to share her experience of being a parent living with a child at the end of their life.

Olivia Gregory is a happy, fun-loving five-year-old little girl who was diagnosed last year with an inoperable aggressive cancerous brain tumour called a “DIPG” (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma).

Clare says the brain tumour was not the shock, it was the diagnosis that "this brain tumour was inoperable, in curable, and... that she would die within nine to twelve months".
