Why can’t planes be faster?

Remember Concorde? That sleek plane with the pointy nose that broke the sound barrier every time it flew from New York to London? It’s been more than a decade since Concorde stopped flying its high speed shuttle routes. But the days of supersonic passenger flights might not be over. A handful of companies are designing jets that could once again transport people faster than the speed of sound.
