Parakeets: nature's great invaders

Originally from the Himalayas, the Indian sub-continent and parts of Africa, ring-necked parakeets are now firmly established in Britain. It is thought there are now 50,000 of them.

Apparently British native species eat less when the green parakeets come into sight. Valerie Sanderson spoke to Derek Mooney of RTE who is the presenter of a Â鶹ÊÓƵAV programme about them, called Nature's Great Invaders. So how did they get here and how much of a danger are they?
