Why: “When I was little, this record would often be playing while mum was cooking our family meals and I would watch her, busy in the kitchen, but enjoying these songs, so distinctly French, and humming along…Despite not knowing what the songs were about, my mum knew quality when she heard it. She told me Piaf had had a tough life, and that was why you could hear so much emotion in her voice."
