'Because it wasn鈥檛 their fight, it didn鈥檛 interest men' - Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep spoke to Today, alongside co-host Carey Mulligan, ahead of the London premiere of their film 'Suffragette' - about the militant campaign in support of women's voting rights in Britain.

On why it鈥檚 taken so long for a film about suffrage to be made - Streep told Today: 鈥淔or a long time it was difficult to convince the people in the position to make decisions, who were mostly male, that it was interesting to anyone鈥ecause it wasn鈥檛 their fight, it didn鈥檛 seem that interesting.鈥

The film's cast and production team were predominantly women and Carey Mulligan added: 鈥淲e were especially lucky on this that we were a group of women who were so excited to finally get to tell the story and to do it together and with such a strong team of women who were so excited.鈥
