Steffen Zuther of the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity in Kazakhstan (ACBK) talks Roland Pease through his experiences of the devastating 鈥渄ie off鈥� of, already critically endangered, Saiga antelope on the Kazakhstan steppe. A bacterial epidemic is thought to have killed over half the global population of these unusual-looking animals. The cause is not certain, but there is evidence that it is a non-infectious bacterial infection that could have been triggered by external environmental conditions.
