Fiona Rae at work

Fiona Rae is one of Britain’s most celebrated painters. Part of the YBA generation of artists that emerged from Goldsmiths at the end of the 1980s, Rae has remained resolutely an abstract painter.

This film shows her as she works on a new series of monochrome works, developing a more stripped-down language of gestural brushstrokes. In the film she talks about what abstraction means to her and explains her process as she makes each new mark on the canvas.
