Reaction to Bobby Sands' death in Belfast

Kate Adie reports on the violence that broke out in Belfast following the death of IRA hunger striker and recently elected MP for Fermanagh-South Tyrone, Bobby Sands.

The report begins with the sound of whistles and the clash of dust bin lids on the ground. While women pray the rosary, young men prepare petrol bombs. Barricades are thrown up on the Falls Road and violence breaks out in other Catholic districts while Protestant areas remain quiet.

Adie also reports that a teenager sustained bullet wounds to a leg, while a milk lorry driver and his young son were seriously injured after their vehicle was hit by stones hurled by a mob (in fact, Eric Guiney and his son Desmond Guiney were both to die from their injuries).
