Writer and angler Will Millard is on the second leg of his journey down the mighty River Wye. Here the river is heading for a land between two countries. As it broadens and deepens, it becomes not only a river but a border.

At Glasbury, Will joins a group of young people from across Britain as they take to the water. They are travelling 100 miles downriver by canoe and kayak. It is a big challenge and a chance for kids growing up in the city to spend some time immersed in the natural world.

At Hay-on-Wye, Will learns how a place now famous for its literature festival reinvented itself as a book town. Hay's revival is largely attributed to one man, Richard Booth, who declared himself King of Hay and took up residence in the castle.

As the Wye flows into England, the river enters a land of affluence and influence where its banks are lined with several large estates. The rich soils of the Wye valley brought great wealth to the area, and what better way to show this off than a beautiful fishing lake, giving an opportunity for Will to cast his line.

Halfway through his journey, Will reaches Hereford, the only city on the Wye. Over the years, Hereford has been severely affected by flooding and when things go wrong, it's up to the emergency services to step in. Before he finishes this stretch of his journey, Will cannot resist another chance at catching a Wye salmon. Near Ross-on-Wye, he enlists the help of an experienced fishing gillie in the hope of landing the king of fish.
