On August 20th 2013 Ìýa gunman walked into the McNair Elementary School in Decatur, Georgia with an AK-47-style assault rifle, 500 rounds of ammunition and announced, ‘We are all going to die today!’.Ìý ,Ìý the school’s book keeper, was taken hostage.Ìý As the school went into lockdown Antoinette talked to the gunman,Ìý politely following his instructions, encouragingÌý him to keep calm.Ìý As she began to empathise with him,Ìý by sharing her owns troubles,Ìý incredibly her words led to him giving himself up to the police,Ìýwithout anyone being injured. ÌýIn her new book Antoinette explains why she believes her own ‘long and difficult’ journey took her to exactly where she needed to be that day.
