Queen’s Speech

Tax free childcare, new ways to tackle modern slavery and the issue of child abuse and neglect  are all  likely to be in this year’s Queen Speech.  As the State Opening of Parliament gets underway we look at what’s being done to attract the woman’s vote at next year’s  General Election and how the other main parties are positioning themselves on issues like child care to attract working parents.

Nicky Morgan on Childcare

The Government is introducing tax breaks worth up to £2,000 per child to help working parents to meet the costs of childcare. Jenni talks to Nicky Morgan, the Women’s Minister and Financial Secretary to the Treasury, about how this tax relief will work and about what she is doing to make sure women’s voices are heard in government.

Margaret Bondfield

Margaret Bondfield should be a household name. She became one of Britain’s first female MP's in 1923 and six years later became the country’s first woman cabinet minister.  She was also the only female chairman of the T.U.C General Council. So why do we know so little about this important figure in women’s political history? Author and journalist Fran Abrams tells Jenni about her major achievements and her legacy.

Female Prison Dramas

Female prison dramas are a staple of the TV schedule, from Prisoner Call Block H to Bad Girls. The latest, , returns for a second season this week. Juliet Lyon from the and Sarah Crompton, Arts Editor of the Daily Telegraph discuss whether fictional portrayals have anything useful to add to the debates around women in prison.

Gemma Collins “Size Isn't Everythingâ€
