Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou interview from the archive.

Maya Angelou is one of the foremost elder stateswomen of literature in America - and the wider world. She's been chosen as an official poet by Bill Clinton and the United Nations and she's renowned for her frank volumes of autobiography, particularly the first instalment, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, which has sold several million copies around the world.

Her autobiography tells of her many lives as a civil-rights activist, producer, performer, actress, ambassador, filmmaker and director. Now Maya talks to Jenni about why she's turned her attention to food and about her new book which is a collection of recipes, together with the memories that they evoke.
