Countryfile Privacy Notice

Countryfile is produced by Â鶹ÊÓƵAV Studios for broadcast, use and exploitation by the Â鶹ÊÓƵAV. We are responsible for handling personal information you provide, including your contribution, in accordance with data protection law.

What information we collect and how we use it?

When you submit your stories or user generated content (UGC) like photos and videos, Â鶹ÊÓƵAV Studios will collect and process your name, contact number, home address, email address and the information you share with us via any video footage or images. We may use this information to contact you if we are interested in finding out more.

Â鶹ÊÓƵAV Studios relies on its legitimate interests as a media organisation to process your personal information. We will not process your personal information where your rights override our interests.

Background checks

If we decide to shortlist your UGC and/or feature it in the programme, we may carry out reasonable background research about you. This may include searches of publicly available records such as: criminal convictions and court proceedings; participation in previous television productions; information from social media profiles, including Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn. Where appropriate, we will contact you to obtain your consent before we carry out these checks.

Such personal data will generally be restricted to relevant members of the programme’s production team and crew, as well as the programme’s third-party experts (where relevant).

Retaining your personal information

We will securely store the information you submit for up to one year after broadcast of the series. We do this in case we wish to contact you about your video footage and horticultural interests for the next series.

If we feature your UGC on Countryfile then your information will be further retained for that purpose.

Sharing your information

Your personal information will generally be restricted to relevant members of the Countryfile production team and crew, as well as the programme’s presenters (where relevant).

Where necessary, we may also share information with other Â鶹ÊÓƵAV Studio staff and the Â鶹ÊÓƵAV, with our professional advisors, and from time to time with other programmes that may have an interest in your contribution.
