What is the Adaptive Podcasting Editor?
What if you could make a podcast that knew a little bit about your user or their surroundings - what are their interests, are they listening at home or on the go? How might the date or time of day change the way the podcast sounds - what are the light levels of the room, is it a sunny or rainy day outside? What if the story could lengthen or shorten depending on how much time the user has to listen - are they on a long walk or a quick trip to the shops? All of this flexibility is possible for producers to create using the Adaptive Podcasting Editor.
The Adaptive Podcasting Editor is a Â鶹ÊÓƵAV R&D tool developed for making perceptive and personalised podcasts. The first of its kind, this tool brings the next generation of podcasting to listeners. Along side the Editor, Â鶹ÊÓƵAV R&D have released an that plays Adaptive Podcasts created with the Editor, so producers can share their creations with their audience. The app uses data and sensors on the listener’s device, to immerse them in an audio experience that is tailored to them. The user has full control over what data is used.
Top tips to get you ready
Plan out your podcast content and variables before starting to use the editing tool. It’ll be easier to create your experience in the tool once you’ve planned out your structure and how things will fit together
Consider the best use of your adaptive elements, rather than overloading the piece with personalisation
Run through your draft edit and use the preview function as you create your podcast, rather than waiting until the end to notice mistakes
Why are Â鶹ÊÓƵAV R&D interested in Adaptive Podcasting?
As broadcasting becomes more digital, one size fits all content is no longer the only option for engaging audiences. Object Based Media is an approach that allows us to change the story we're telling, and the way our audience receives it. Â鶹ÊÓƵAV R&D have been working in this area for a number of years, developing a set of JavaScript libraries, as well as tools like StoryFormer, to allow production teams and creative to experiment with it themselves.
The Adaptive Podcasting Editor has been designed and developed to allow the podcasting community to experiment with this concept, and for producers to share their creations with a wider audience.
