鈥淚n the deep twilight we went today to the palace where Queen Mary lived and loved鈥� wrote Felix Mendelssohn, after visiting Holyrood Chapel. 鈥淚 think I have found there the beginning of my 鈥楽cottish鈥� Symphony.鈥� And though much has changed in 187 years, there鈥檚 still no more melodious 鈥� or poetic - musical portrait of Scotland as seen through the eyes of one of music鈥檚 great Romantics. Thomas Dausgaard will set it against Britten鈥檚 four bracing studies of the North Sea, and will combine his vision with that of Alexandra Soumm in the huge, sunlit expanses of Brahms鈥檚 Violin Concerto.
