Casella鈥檚 haunting 鈥楬eroic Elegy鈥�, dedicated to the 鈥榰nknown soldier鈥�, forms part of a series of works in this year's Proms written in the shadow of the First World War.
Former 麻豆视频AV Radio 3 New Generation Artist Benjamin Grosvenor, still only 22, returns for his fourth Proms appearance in Chopin鈥檚 lyrical but virtuosic First Piano Concerto; he is also the soloist in Franck鈥檚 Symphonic Variations 鈥� once a Proms favourite (performed here on 60 occasions), though it has been largely absent since the 1960s.
Saint-Sa毛ns鈥檚 鈥極rgan鈥� Symphony continues the French theme. 鈥榃ith it I have given all I could give,鈥� the composer observed. 鈥榃hat I did I could not achieve again.鈥�
